APMF AND APLA

One of the ways APMF (Asia Pacific Mission Foundation) helps ICOC (International Churches of Christ) Philippines is through the Professional Development Allowance given to church leaders. This is used to enroll in classes that will help them gain stronger leadership skills and a deeper knowledge of the scriptures.

The Asia Pacific Leadership Academy (APLA) is one of these schools. The academy was founded by Gordon Ferguson and is now headed by Dr. Rolan Monje. The goal is for every church leader to gain a diploma from APLA, thereby equipping these dynamic leaders to teach, admonish and inspire.

Thirty-four church leaders have already earned their diplomas while new church leaders are trained as congregations multiply and grow.

Your giving helps leaders become scholars.

VISION AND PURPOSE

For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea – Isaiah 11:9

The ICOC Asia Pacific Region, which encompasses Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Guam, and the Philippines, is in dire need of leadership training to keep up with their growing population of more than 300 million people. The Board of Directors has funded a number of projects in these countries including APLA.

PHILOSOPHY

Our approach in the Academy incorporates elements of several types of learning situations into one. First, the teaching approach used will be more akin to that of a ministry training school than a seminary. Both cover similar material, but the former focuses more on the practical application of material than on the academic aspects of it.

Second, advance assignments will be broken down into several sections. Each section will include: reading from a primary book on the subject; research papers; formal reviews of assigned material; guided group discussions; and tests. A diploma is awarded after a three or four day seminar setting and passing a final cumulative exam.

Your partnership helps churches grow.
